The donor strip is removed by Dr. Konior using magnification and a single blade cutting instrument.
The doctor chooses this technique because the combination of the single blade with magnification has
been shown to be the method that causes the least damage to the follicles when harvesting the
donor area.
Our follicular-unit dissection team then uses high-powered binocular microscopes to divide
the donor strip into natural groupings of one, two, three, or four hair follicular-unit grafts.
Microscopic graft dissection is intensive in time, technical ability, staff training,
and equipment, but we have found that it is well worth the investment for consistently
producing viable, growing hair on our patients. Studies show a significant increase in
the number of growing grafts when our method of stereo microscopy is utilized.
